One of the pleasures of London is that they have a lot of places where you can eat or drink chocolate and resisting the temptation of a chocolate café is hard. I think that the most widespread is Hotel chocolat. I have earlier written about Rabot Estate in Borough Market. Paul A Young also serves chocolate temptations in Islington. Theobroma in Chiswick also has a nice café. One of the latest additions is William Curley – multiple winner of Academy of Chocolate’s Gold award. In Copenhagen I can think of Frederiksberg chocolade and in Hillerød you can enjoy Chokolademageriets café while look at Frederiksborg Castle. Chokolademageriet also have a café in Elsingore.
William Curley in Belgravia
Curley has opened a Dessert bar in Belgravia and now extended the opening times on Friday and Saturday until 10 PM. Just as with any other chocolate café you can buy chocolates a plenty, hot chocolate with many flavours and cakes and various other goodies. And of course ice cream.
The dessert bar is a temptation that must be obeyed so we plan to visit them next weekend. We have had to postpone this due to other engagements.
Curley have made the observation that desserts in restaurant are often an afterthought and not given as much attention as the rest of the meal. This made him start up with the Dessert bar, which now have extended its opening times. The idea is of course to enjoy a meal in your favourite restaurant and then go to Curley’s café and enjoy a dessert created by a master chocolatier.
What makes Curley special is not that he has a café but that he has started to serve chocolate desserts. Many cafés have cakes that often is bordering on being a dessert but Curley have taken the decision to market desserts, which I believe is quite unique. With Curley’s strong reputation for quality chocolate this is something that I would like to try out and look forward to.
